Professional Development for Interpreters

Auslan Connections was excited to deliver our first national professional development session for 2016. This first session was available to all interpreters Australia wide free of charge. This was made accessible via an internet connection and laptop, tablet or smart phone.

About the presenter
Della Goswell is an interpreter, interpreter educator and researcher based in Sydney. She was accredited as a professional level Auslan-English interpreter in 1987, is a native signer, and has been training interpreters since 1990. Della is convenor of the Graduate Diploma in Auslan-English Interpreting at Macquarie University. She has a Masters in Adult Education, and in Translation & Interpreting, and is currently a Linguistics PhD student at Macquarie University, looking at challenges to equivalence for SL interpreters in legal settings.

About the session
The session will be aimed at those considering work in the court system as well as Interpreters already engaged in court settings. Topics include:
Contextual overview: Federal and Family Circuit court process, typical matters
Courtroom discourse: Questioning techniques, interpreting challenges
Communication strategies: legal representatives, judicial officers, interpreting team
